Musk: AI will be smarter than the smartest human by next year
Tesla CEO Elon Musk announced that artificial intelligence will probably be developed to be smarter than the smartest human by next year or 2026. Tesla CEO Elon Musk made assessments about the development and future of artificial intelligence to Norwegian wealth fund CEO Nicolai Tangen. Musk said that artificial intelligence will probably be smarter than the smartest human by next year or 2026. Stating that artificial intelligence is limited by the availability of electricity, Musk said about the development timeline of AGI (artificial general intelligence), "If we think that we will define AGI as smarter than the smartest human, I think that will probably be next year, in other words, in two years." On the other hand, Musk said that the lack of advanced chips prevented the training of the version 2 model of Grok, the artificial intelligence chatbot of the xAI initiative. Musk founded xAI last year as a rival to OpenAI, which he sued for abandoning its original mission of developing artificial intelligence for the benefit of humanity without profit. Musk said that training the Grok 2 model required about 20,000 Nvidia H100 GPUs, while the Grok 3 model will require 100,000 Nvidia H100 chips.
