New investment decision from Şişecam

Şişecam will build a new facility in Tarsus with a total investment of TL 1.5 billion and will increase capacity in Mersin. Şişecam decided to invest in a new sand preparation facility with a production capacity of 490 thousand tons/year in order to meet the raw material needs of its new flat glass facility, which is under investment in Tarsus and targeted to be commissioned in 2025. In a statement made by the company to KAP on Wednesday evening, it was stated that it was also decided to increase the capacity of the existing limestone and dolomite processing facility in Mersin by 165 thousand tons/year. The statement indicated that the total investment amount of the relevant investments is approximately TL 1.5 billion (USD 82 million) and that both investments are targeted to be completed towards the end of 2024. Prof. Dr. Kırman: Ensuring continuity of raw material supply is of strategic importance Şişecam Chairman of the Board of Directors and Executive Board Member Prof. Dr. Ahmet Kırman said the following about these investments, which will provide advantages in supply costs and guarantee raw material continuity for glass production: “The disruptions in the supply chain, which started with the global pandemic and increased with the Russia-Ukraine war, are deepening. In a global atmosphere full of uncertainty, providing effective governance against supply disruption risks is becoming more and more important for the sustainability of corporate successes. Various strategies such as long-term purchasing strategies, collaborations with critical suppliers, and vertical integration are becoming fundamental and permanent components of supply chain management. Ensuring raw material supply continuity is of strategic importance. We manage a sustainable strategy focused on ensuring the supply of the most basic inputs of our glass activity areas, eliminating vulnerabilities, and business continuity. In this sense, I believe that the new investment decisions we make are important in terms of both the growth of the sectors we provide input to and the preservation of our leading position in our sectors.
