UK to offer £900 cost of living support for low-income earners

Millions of low-income households in England will receive up to 900 pounds ($1,084) in government support over the financial year, the Department for Work and Pensions said in a statement. The money will be paid into people’s bank accounts in three payments over the financial year, as England battles a cost-of-living crisis, after a cash support programme worth 1,200 pounds was announced last year for low-income households. Millions of low-income households will receive up to 900 pounds ($1,084) in government support over the financial year, the Department for Work and Pensions said in a statement on Tuesday. The money will go directly into beneficiaries’ bank accounts in three payments over the financial year, the department said. The cash support was announced by the Chancellor of the Exchequer, Jeremy Hunt, in his Autumn statement, along with a series of tax increases and tighter public spending. The government did not give details of the payment plan at the time. The department also said there would be an extra 150 pounds for more than six million disabled people and an extra 300 pounds for more than eight million pensioners. Battling a cost of living crisis, the UK announced a £1,200 cash support scheme for low-income households last year.
