Wilson doesn't expect stock market crash, Kolanovic pessimistic
Morgan Stanley strategist Mike Wilson sees the possibility of a full-fledged stock market crash as low, while former JPMorgan chief market strategist Marko Kolanovic offered a negative view, saying there are several risks. While Morgan Stanley’s Mike Wilson sees weak seasonality and an uncertain growth outlook likely to cap U.S. stock gains for the rest of the quarter, he sees the possibility of a full-fledged stock market crash as low. The strategist, who correctly predicted the decline in U.S. stocks in July, said that while he doesn’t expect a crash, he sees very limited room for upside in the S&P 500, expecting the index to fluctuate between 5,000 and 5,400. Former JPMorgan chief market strategist Marko Kolanovic resurfaced on social media for the first time since news broke that he was leaving his post at the bank in early July. The closely followed strategist, who made a name for himself with his warnings about the stock market crash in 2015 and the volatility explosion in 2018, has not come true. In Tuesday’s X and LinkedIn posts, Kolanovic offered a new downbeat outlook, saying markets face risks ranging from the U.S. presidential election to geopolitical developments, from recession indicators to rising bankruptcies and credit card defaults.
