First statement from Central Bank Governor Fatih Karahan
TCMB Governor Karahan emphasized that they are determined to maintain the necessary monetary tightness until inflation declines to levels compatible with their targets, and said, "We will definitely not allow any deterioration in the inflation outlook." The Central Bank of the Republic of Turkey (TCMB) published a press release regarding the appointment of Fatih Karahan as governor. In the announcement made by the TCMB, it was reminded that Dr. Fatih Karahan, who has been serving as vice president since July 28, 2023, was appointed as the Governor of the TCMB with the Presidential Decree published in the Official Gazette dated February 3, 2024 and numbered 32449. According to the announcement, Karahan made the following assessments after his appointment: "The main objective and priority of our Central Bank is to ensure price stability. In this regard, we continue our efforts to ensure disinflation with our strong team. We are determined to maintain the necessary monetary tightness until inflation declines to levels compatible with our target. We are closely monitoring inflation expectations and pricing behaviors. We will definitely not allow any deterioration in the inflation outlook." Karahan will hold an information meeting at the TCMB Administrative Center on February 8 at 10:30 to introduce this year's first Inflation Report.
